My husband and I have just returned from an amazing river cruise with Avalon and a 'Bonnie Scotland' land tour with Globus. What a great combination!
As we sailed on the Seine River for 7 days sitting on the top deck with the 360 degree view, we passed quaint and friendly towns. When we were docked, we explored the towns overflowing with history on walking tours. It is such an intimate way to visit the towns and become immersed in their culture.
Special experiences -
Visiting a half-timbered home with thatched roof in the beautiful Normandy countryside.
Experiencing the historic Normandy Landing Beaches and placing a rose, part of the tour, on a young soldier's grave in the Canadian Cemetery.
When we returned to Paris, we took the Chunnel Train to London and spent 3 glorious days enjoying the best of London - city tour and highlights, Wellington Pub [Churchill was a frequent patron], theatre [The Lion King], dinner and evening cruise on the Thames.
Next we flew to Glasgow and stayed 2 days on our own in the Sherbrooke Castle Hotel. Set in stunning grounds, this magnificent baronial mansion was built in 1896. Now transformed into a luxury four star hotel, the building hosts spacious en-suite bedrooms, a lounge bar and an exceptional restaurant. What an amazing experience!
Afterwards, we joined the land tour for 7 glorious days exploring the Scottish Highlands. Sitting up high in the coach and viewing the scenery was spectacular!
Memorable experiences -
Touring Stirling Castle and re-living the era.
Visiting the Isle of Skye, the largest island of the Inner Hebrides
Observing sheep dogs follow commands to guide the sheep and assisting the Champion Shepherd shear a sheep.
Practicing hitting balls at the St. Andrews Driving Range and being featured on Google Map.
Our lives have been enriched with being immersed in the history and culture through a river and land experience.
We have memories that will last a lifetime!
